Online Casino Games
You know that times have changed when you wake up one morning and discover that playing your favorite games at your regular casino has been somewhat expanded by the advent of casino games on the Internet.
What are online casino games? Online casino games are basically your traditional games with a number of twist and variations and played exclusively via the Internet. You have two general types: Play for Money games or Play for Practice games.
Play for Money games are those that can be found in casino websites and as the name suggests, you play for money. You usually register with the online casino operator for a specified fee and sometimes they offer sign-up bonuses so take advantage of that. Getting your username and password to access the site, you download their software to play (sometimes there are sites that offer no downloads games) and then you're off! Most websites feature VIP Lounges for the hard-hitters and high-rollers. Instant messaging between you and other players makes the games interesting. When you're playing for money, there are things that you need to check so you're protected and you don't get scammed easily. First, investigate the reputation of the casino and/or its operator. Most legitimate online casinos provide their company information freely. Since you're dealing with the Internet, make sure that they're capable of protecting your personal and bank information to guard you against identity theft. And since you're dealing with money, double check on their payment options and payout methods to be sure that they're compatible with your own setup. It also helps if they have general and technical support 24/7 and with live operators, not just via email or fax. This will help you in the event of a power failure, Internet disconnection and other factors that may cause you to accidentally lose your place in a game.
Play for Practice games are the free games. They call them Play for Practice games in casino websites to differentiate them from the money-oriented games. These usually refer to the games that you can practice with so you can brush up on the rules and learn some new rules if there are any without any money-exchange taking place. Otherwise, on various game portals, these are basically your free games that you can immediately play online or download to your computer so you can play with them at home at your whim.
Types of casino games
There are basically three types of online casino games:
Card games, Table Games and Slot Machine Games.
The most popular card game ever is Poker. It is so in demand that there are websites running exclusively for poker players around the world. There are many variations too: Five-Card Draw, Seven-Card Stud and Texas Hold'em among so many others. It usually involves placing your bets in a pot before any of the cards are dealt. When you get your hand of cards, you have the option to keep them, ask for additional cards or get them replaced. The game continues with players betting until the final two players have a Showdown, in which they both reveal their cards at the end of the game. The winner is the one with the best hand depending on the type of poker being played.
Baccarat is another favorite card game because its mechanics are so simple. You just have to bet on the player, the bank or a standoff/tie. If you chose correctly, you win.
Blackjack or "21" as it is also commonly known, involves getting the highest numerical card total with 21 as your limit. The face cards, i.e. King, Queen and Jack are equivalent to 10, while the Ace is equal to 11. So if you have a King and an Ace, that's already Blackjack and you win or it's a draw if the dealer also has a Blackjack.
Table games are also a favorite. Roulette is one of them because it's also easy to play. You just have to guess which slot the ball will rest after it has stopped spinning. You can place your bets on any of the place numbers on the table and after which the dealer will set the white ball loose among the slots. If the ball falls on the zeros or if the ball didn't fall on any of your bets, you lose.
Craps is a favorite among casino patrons. It's very fast and unpredictable because you're dealing with dice rolls and tosses. Your first roll is called the Come Out roll and ideally you should get a 7 or 11 to win and to end the game. If your first roll comes out to 2, 3 or 12, that's called Craps and you lose - game over. Any other number resulting from the Come Out roll becomes the Point and you continue playing until you get craps or a 7 or 11 with each roll.
Lastly, slot machines are just about the most popular casino games whether online or traditional. They're very easy to play and it takes but a second to learn. The concept is simple: with just a flick of a button, you wait for the dials to line up and presto! You either win or lose. Some online casinos offer progressive jackpots in which the jackpot increases as more players play the game. The first person to get the "777" combination (the usual winning combination) wins the total jackpot.
