Online Betting and Gambling in Australia

The online gambling community has had a lot of positive press in the past month or so.  The latest news comes out of Australian, as the politicians realized that far too much money was being lost via offshore gambling sites. It seems the Australian government is going to go the way of regulation in order to keep the money in Australia, which could exceed one billion dollars.
 
There are several online poker stars from Australia that have done very well in land based poker tournaments, as well as high stakes online gambling. Plan to expand online betting

“Releasing the proposals yesterday, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy stressed it was interim report only and the government had made no decisions.

 
But Senator Conroy and sports betting agencies pointed out that Australians were already sending about $1 billion a year offshore via illegal sites, and argued that regulating the domestic industry could help protect punters.
 

Two years ago the government said it did not support the liberalisation of online gaming, including online poker, as recommended by the Productivity Commission. …”

Joe Hachem will certainly be pleased with the news.  The Australian poker player and winner of the 2005 WSOP main event can be seen in the video above.  The clip shows an amazing hand, and how you can behave when you have a big stack.  Joe used to be linked quite closely with the online poker site, PokerStars, untill they parted ways in 2011.
