Money where my mouth is … The start

Ok, I am going to play Texas Holdem at Party Poker. I will be using the tested system of playing tight aggressive poker. I will be playing $1/$2 Texas Holdem as this is where most of the new players will start so I want to show you how easy it is. (It does get harder at the higher levels ($5/$10 and above) however if you move up through the levels you will be able to hold your own.
I will only be playing a couple hundred hands a day as Limit Holdem is not my regular game anymore so I don’t want to spend to much poker time playing a game that is not my most profitable.

Tight aggressive poker starts at hand selection, I have this described in my
hands by position page of my main website.
I have not played strictly by this system for a while, so there will be a few mistakes made by me, this is ok as everyone will make mistakes as there is no such thing as perfect poker. I will also be playing 4 tables at a time in order to get in as much hands as possible without making to many mistakes.

The reason I have not played this style for a while is that I am a more experienced player so I have added a few more playable hands. The hands by position system is designed to help you play a specific type of poker (Tight aggressive), this is the most profitable type of poker to play in the long run.

Ugly finish to August 2006?

I have 2 days to pull myself out of the sewers, yes its been that bad. I have had to twist my own arm in order to encourage me to update my progress (or downfall). I am now checking my stats on Poker Tracker as I am writing. Poker Tracker will show me how much I have won or lost, and I already know I have lost a bit.

$1,437 in the red, damn I didn’t think it was that ugly. I have gone from $2 profit to $1,437, to say the least it is a nasty month. I have had months like this before, however not as many as I have had this year. In 2005 I had one losing month and in 2006 I have had 4 losing months already. To say it has been a nasty year is an understatement to say the least.

It is not all doom and gloom, no need to feel sorry for me. In 2005 my biggest loss was $92.00 and my biggest win was $5,400.00, so that’s about $5300 profit from my worst to best. In 2005 my worst has been $3000, however my best has been $13,700, so a profit of $10,000 from my best to worst, there’s some positive progress for you!

It has now been two losing months in a row which means I can not allow this to continue into next month, I have to pull myself out of this slump. I have to date not had three losing months in a row and I can’t start now.
I will already start September off on a good note as I will get a $300 bonus from Party Poker by gaining 100 party points on every day of August and right now every little bit will help. I will also be able to trade my party point for cash, this will be on the 15th of September and will account for another $150. The cash for Party Points deals is a once off deal, they might have it again however it is not a monthly occurrence. I believe you have to be a Party Poker VIP in order to qualify.

As far as this month statistics go, here are the details:

1. I have played 445 games so far, I should be at about 500 in the next few days. 445 games is not a lot at all, I should be “working” much harder, and yes, even in a losing month you should still be putting in the same amount of games.

2. I have been dealt 20,000 hands and have played less than 20% of those hands (folded all the rest), I am happy with this number (20%), this is where I need to be.

3. I have had AA 76times, which is very low. I should be dealt AA every 220 hands, which means I should have had AA at least 90 times.

4. My best hands for the month have been in order AA,JJ,KK and QQ, which is normal except for the wrong order.

5. In winning months I win with AA about 85% of the time, this month has been, 88%, so that’s good however I have not had enough of these hands.

6. In winning months I win with KK about 81% of the time, this month has been, 79%, so that’s below average.

7. In winning months I win with QQ about 75% of the time, this month has been, 81%, so that’s below average

8. In winning months I win with JJ about 70% of the time, this month has been, 81%, so that’s very good.

9. I normally have a win per hand of about +4 this month is has been -8, which means my other hands I normally win with have been killing my progress.

I will be posting again in a weeks time, I really hope I have something positive to post about. If I don’t I will start wondering if this blog is hexing me (The superstitious side of me)
